Why should I use wooden shoes trees for leather shoes?
For leather shoes, it is absolutely recommended to use shoe trees made out of wood. Wood can better absorb the perspiration of the foot which penetrates the leather in the course of wearing the shoe. The use of shoe trees can also counteract the development of creases due to wearing.
I clean my shoes every evening and put them on wooden shoe trees. Still, the leather tears in the creases from wear. What can I do about it?
Since you clean your shoes daily (probably with shoe polish), the described area might be affected by so-called wax breaking. This effect appears when an excessive wax layer is built up on the leather due to insufficient polishing. This wax layer will crack in the “walking crease“ and forms whitish-gray cracks. We recommend that you polish your shoes thoroughly (with a cloth or a brush). If this brings no improvement, clean the leather with COLLONIL Reiniger (spray) while following the instructions. You should then condition your shoes again with a polish (COLLONIL Waterstop or COLLONIL Premium Diamant). Daily care is not necessary. Rather, the conditioning cream should be thinly applied at regular intervals and polished off thoroughly. Also, the leather must be cleaned regularly.
Are there any good instructions on how to clean shoes properly?
Newly purchased shoes should be thoroughly waterproofed before being worn for the first time (e.g. COLLONIL Waterstop (spray) or COLLONIL Nubuk + Velours (spray)) to build up a protection against dirt and wetness. This basic waterproofing must be renewed, depending on strain and on the weather situation. Subsequently, the shoe is treated with a corresponding care product (e.g. COLLONIL Waterstop Creme, COLLONIL Nubuk + Textile). After treatment with a care product, a smooth leather shoe is polished, while suede leather is brushed up with a crepe brush. Before every treatment, a shoe which has been worn must be cleaned (e.g. COLLONIL Soft Cleaner, COLLONIL Clean & Care).
Do shoe care products contain perfume compositions or scents as auxiliary materials or scents to cover up raw material odours?
Manufacturers of shoe care articles formulate some of their products with scents or with essential oils. The aim is an improvement of the olfactory appearance of a product, as well as the use of the conditioning property of some selected vegetable oils.
Unfortunately, my Recaro car seats are already a little abraded and cracked. How can I get them nicely black and supple again?
For cleaning and conditioning your Recaro leather seats, we recommend our COLLONIL Car Care Set .This set offers a cleaning and conditioning product which, together with a sponge and a microfiber polishing cloth, will optimally simplify the application. However, existing damages on the surface cannot be remedied completely. For re-dyeing large areas of your black seats, we cannot recommend any product since there is the risk of the colour coming off if the product is not thoroughly applied. But you can treat minor damages with COLLONIL Colorit black. Take care to apply a thin layer on the affected part and leave it on for a longer period of time. Then, the affected part must be thoroughly polished out with a clean cloth, until there is not any discoloration anymore on a light-coloured cloth.
My shoe seller recommended COLLONIL Gel for high-gloss leather shoes. What are its advantages versus conventional shoe polish?
On most smooth leathers, COLLONIL Gel produces a somewhat better shine after polishing than many other conventional shoe polishes do. However, the COLLONIL product program also offers the special gloss cream COLLONIL Premium Diamant which was developed for high-gloss leather and brush leather.
We want to revive an old leather couch - its colour: light anthracite. What do you recommend?
For the care of furniture leather (smooth leather), we recommend COLLONIL Progres foam or COLLONIL Comfort foam. With both products, foam is thinly applied with a clean cloth, rubbed in and, after a short period of drying, it is polished out. These products have the advantage of a uniform application on large areas. The smooth leather is cleaned and conditioned in one step. The product’s conditioning ingredients revive the leather colour. If the leather needs a more intensive care, we recommend COLLONIL Premium Lotion. This soft leather lotion is also uniformly applied with a clean cloth and polished after a short period of letting dry. Especially older, dried out smooth leather will be more intensively conditioned and revived with this product.
The soles and heels of my shoes become ever more light-colored at the visible edge. Shoe polish itself is not sufficient. What can I do?
For re-colouring scuffed sole edges and heels, we recommend COLLONIL Interpolish. Since most men’s shoes have black heels, you should use the product in this colour. The wax paste is applied with a cloth and then left to dry for a longer period of time. Subsequently, the treated areas must be polished thoroughly (!) with a cloth to prevent colour from rubbing off.
